Modern World

I've been photographing people in downtown Milwaukee recently. I set out to photograph discontented people waiting for city buses to arrive; an indubitable challenge. I didn't want to ask permission, nor interfere with their urgent waiting, I was hoping to capture something actually happening in front of me. I've been thinking often about the presence of the camera, and how aggressive it can truly be. (More on this later...) While shooting I naturally ventured west and noticed a steady decline in the conditions of buildings, roads, and what seemed like business. I realized my environment had changed, which temporarily shifted my interests. I started to think about industrialization, development, population, and density. A whole new direction. These photos once again heightened my awareness of consumption in the United States, and my relationship with it. Even our buildings and homes become garbage, and what once was important, will soon be jilted. Much to think about...
